Preparing for a road trip in Europe: key points

Traveling by car across Europe is an unforgettable experience, full of vivid emotions and adventures. You plan your own route, do not depend on tourist groups and guides, but at the same time take full responsibility for organizing the trip. How to make it as comfortable and safe as possible and how much will it cost? Let's figure it out.

How to Organize a Road Trip in Europe

Proper organization of the trip is the key to a pleasant and safe journey. Unlike tours booked through agencies, you will have to prepare all the documents yourself, choose the route and get the car in order.

The main stages of preparation:
✔ Route planning. Decide which countries and cities you want to visit and how much time you will spend on the road.
✔ Hotel booking. Some countries may require a confirmed booking for visa purposes. Tents and camping may not be suitable for all cases.
✔ Route sheet. It is advisable to write it in free form - in some countries it may be required for a visa.
✔ Insurance. A Green Card insurance policy for the car is mandatory. It covers possible claims in the event of an accident. Medical insurance of at least 30,000 euros is also required.
✔ Visa processing. If you have a biometric passport and enough visa-free days, you do not need to apply for a visa. In other cases, a standard package of documents is required: a foreign passport, a visa application form, insurance, accommodation reservation, a certificate from work and proof of financial means.

If there are several countries on the route, a visa is issued for the one where you will stay the longest. If the length of stay is the same everywhere, then for the country of first entry. In some cases, a double or multiple entry visa may be required.
